A group of girls from South Side Middle School recently put their creativity to good use. Sisters Caroline and Julia Lanzillotta began making colorful pens for their friends by using duct tape, florist tape and leaves. When their peers began to request the pens, the girls realized that selling them could be a great way to raise money for Camp ANCHOR.
The girls commissioned some of their fellow classmates to help them and each day they met to work on producing pens during their lunch period. Many teachers and students donated duct tape, pens, markers and other items for use in making the pens.
So far the students have collected more than $300. All profits from this fundraiser will be donated to Camp ANCHOR, a year-round recreation program for children and adults with special needs who reside in the Town of Hempstead.
