Over a period of two days at the end of last month, the students in grades 1 through 8 of St. Agnes Cathedral School engaged in some friendly sports competition with a purpose.
“Red, White and DO” day brought Catholic Schools Week to an exciting close. In the past, students would enjoy this friendly rivalry, but this year, they took it to a whole new level. At the suggestion of the Student Council, St. Agnes students decided to have fun but with a charitable goal.
Each student who participated brought in a minimum donation of $1. This year, the proceeds went to two different charities: 75 percent to the winning team’s charity and 25 percent to the runner-up. Students from the White Team played for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and students on the Red Team played for St. John’s Bread and Life Program. They participated in a variety of competitions including volleyball, basketball and relays, all directed by Mrs. Cook. At the close of competition, the White Team was victorious.
