Members of St. Joachim since 1962 when they moved to Lawrence from Inwood, the Cascardis remain active both in the parish and in the Five Towns community. Ella was very active as a leader in the St. Joachim School community, continuing her involvement long after her children graduated and moved on to high school. Tony was active and a leader in the church's Men's Club and both he and his wife are often participants at Sunday Mass, with Ella a choir member, and Tony as a lector. The Cascardis also volunteer their efforts with the Outreach programs at St. Joachim and St. Joseph's R.C Church in Hewlett.
The couple is also active in the community with Ella a member of the Board of Governors for the Lawrence Association and Tony involved with the Community Advisory Board of St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway. The Cascardis both graduated from Lawrence High School. Tony received his bachelor of arts in economics from the University of North Carolina and continuing graduate studies at the New York University School of Business, while Ella earned a B.A in Spanish from NYU, a master's degree from Columbia University and a master's in Italian from Queens College.
Tony and Ella have two children, Anthony Jr., who is married to Barbara and Andrea, married to John. Anthony is a professor of comparative literature at the University of California-Berkeley, and Andrea is a literary agent and publishing consultant who lives in Rockville Centre. The couple also has five grandchildren, Mathew and Ella Cascardi and John III, Stephen and Alexander Maher.
