Stamp Out Hunger, a national food drive where postal workers collect food donations along their route to benefit food pantries, will be held Saturday, May 10. All food collected locally, in Nassau and Suffolk counties, will benefit Island Harvest Food Bank and its network of food pantries, soup kitchens and other programs.

Island Harvest distributed a record 18.3 million pounds of food in 2024 and is expected to distribute 20 million pounds this year.

Residents are encouraged to leave non-perishable food by their mail boxes as part of this food drives to address the growing need for supplemental food assistance in communities across the country.

On May 10, local postal carriers will collect the non-perishable donations left by mailboxes and on porches. The food is sorted and delivered to organizations that help people who are food insecure.

Suggested donations include non-perishable food such as canned goods, cereal, pasta, rice, boxed juices, shelf-stable milk. In addition, personal care items such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, and disposable diapers will be gratefully accepted.
