Star Lab visits School 6

Posted

Steve Tomecek, a scientist, writer for National Geographic and author of books on science for children, visited School 6 with his Star Lab to teach children about the wonders and mysteries of the nighttime sky.

The Star Lab is an inflatable dome big enough to conduct a short lesson on astronomy. Inside, Tomecek projected a view of the evening sky as it looked on the day he visited. Venus, Jupiter and Mars — which are not usually seen in the evening sky — are making an unusual appearance this month. The children oohed and ahhed as the lights went off and the stars came out, and were excited to name the celestial bodies they knew and recognized.
