Storm brings flooding to Glen Cove

Posted

Rains poured heavily on Glen Cove late Wednesday and early Thursday, flooding streets, basements and the Brewster Street parking garage. Students at Glen Cove High School and Robert M. Finley Middle School were granted an extended day of summer vacation, as damage from the storm caused the delayed opening of the buildings. All four elementary schools in the district opened as planned.

Additionally, Nassau County Department of Health issued an advisory against bathing at Morgan Park Beach and Pryibil Beach on Thursday until 8 a.m. on Sept. 3. This advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches impacted by stormwater runoff caused by heavy rainfall, according to Mayor Tim Tenke. Stormwater runoff can impact bathing water quality by elevating bacteria levels.

On Facebook, several residents reported flooded basements that caused significant damage, and a utility pole was knocked down in Glenwood Landing, at the intersection of Glenwood Road and Shore Road.
