New York state Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo Jr., Citibank, the Long Island Power Authority, state Assemblyman David McDonough, Assemblywoman Maureen O'Connell, Bellmore Herald, Verizon, Coldwell Banker-Residential Brokerage, K-JOY 98.3 FM, B-103 FM and Jack FM are co-sponsoring the event. The fair will feature festivities for the whole family, including 130 exhibits and attractions in a 25-square-block area. This event is one of the largest in Nassau County, drawing more than 120,000 visitors each year.
Fair attractions will include a carnival, kids expo, craft fair, military expo, car show, business expo, health and safety expo, sports expo, music and food.
The carnival will feature exciting rides and family games for all ages. Attendees can ride the Alpine Bob or check out the double Ferris wheel. The Alpine Bob is a large attraction ride and the only one of its kind in New York state. The ride whisks riders up, down and around in free swinging tubs. The Ferris wheel is an all-time favorite, with repeat riders waiting for the thrill of seeing the entire fairgrounds. There are also many prize-filled and easy-to-win carnival games that will test one's skills.
The carnival will be open Thursday, Sept. 22, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The kids' expo will offer an interactive song and dance with Wendy and Susan of ABSolutely Fit, a petting zoo, pony rides, story-telling time, and many hands-on activities for youngsters. Kids will also enjoy smaller-sized carnival rides, a mobile Magic Kingdom, pasta picture frame making, strolling characters, cookie decorating, face painting, cartoon photos, sand and spin art, and jewelry making. In addition, an original munchkin from the 1939 classic "The Wizard of Oz" will make an appearance.
And, at the fair, Soho Salon will hold a fund-raiser for breast-cancer research. The event will be held in memory of Maria Hough, and proceeds will go to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.
