Student participation was entirely voluntary, with all projects prepared and completed at home.
Packets of information with suggested ideas for Science Fair projects were sent home with the children in March. Students who chose to participate met with the district's science consultant Brian Wallrapp to work out the details of their presentations. The students developed hypotheses, designed and completed experiments, and formulated conclusions.
In addition to preparing written reports, the students put together display boards showing their experiments and shared their work with others. Topics ranged from why volcanoes erupt to how the sun produces energy. Projects were not judged, and every young scientist received recognition for making the effort to participate and learn.
