Summer fun at camp Coleman

Posted
Coleman, off Babylon Turnpike just west of the Meadowbrook Parkway, ranks as the South Shore's largest day camp, serving hundreds of youngsters from throughout the Bellmores, Merricks and beyond. The tree-covered camp sits on 13 acres, with a host of summer activities, from horseback riding to swimming, arts and crafts, archery and team sports.
George and Marla Coleman, who own the camp, are big supporters of the Bellmore-Merrick community. The Herald stopped off at the camp last Friday as the girls' finals of the camp's new GaGa tournament got under way. GaGa is a friendly form of dodge ball in which children, instead of hurling the ball at one another, slide it along the floor, trying to strike an opponent's legs. The game is played inside a specially constructed GaGa pit.
In short, the kids had a ball.
