Support Central, elementary school budgets

The number-one ranked student above the girl got into MIT -- the Massachusetts Institute of Technology! Only the finest science school in the country.
We think both acceptances are fantastic and signs of just how terrific Bellmore-Merrick schools have become.
The list of students getting into Ivy League and other prestigious institutions of higher learning is growing in Bellmore-Merrick yearly. Test scores go up and up. The district now ranks among the top 10 or 12 in Nassau County, and certainly among the top two or three on the South Shore. Meanwhile, taxes grow in line with inflation. Who can argue with results like that?
We certainly cannot. That is why we ask residents to support this year's school budgets, both in the Central High School District and in your local elementary districts.
Education is among the Bellmore-Merrick community's top priorities, from the younger grades through high school. Let's keep it that way.
It might be tempting to vote against the school budgets because of the many other tax increases residents face this year. If that happens, however, students will be shortchanged when programs are cut back, stifling learning.
If numerous budgets were shot down, Bellmore-Merrick could quickly lose its reputation as a community dedicated to educating children. Property values could decline. In the end, everyone would lose.
Let's keep education at the forefront in Bellmore-Merrick. Vote yes on Tuesday, May 21 to the Central High School District budget, as well as that of your elementary district.
