The are 5-0 for the seaon. Both teams were undefeated coming into this Saturday's event.
Lynbrook's coach Pete Ninavaggi had rallied his swimmers during the week to avenge last year's disappointing season and the swimmers responded with a victory for another undefeated season. This is the third season in the past four years Lynbrook has gone undefeated and they won the overall Championship back in 2004. They swim on Thursday at the aquatic center for another chance at the overall Championship.
The strength of the the team continues to be its female swimmers. The girls in the 9-10 age group have been able to consistently place first or second in each one of the meets in all the events. They have been with the team for almost four years now and have formed a strong bond with each other and can complete off each others strengths. Additionally the depth of the 8 and under boys has allowed the team to be strong where many other teams have trouble recruiting swimmers and as a result competing.
Many of the children on the team started competing since they were seven years old and continue with the team There has been a surge in both the boys and girls 8 and under category, which has allowed the team the continue its growth. The team has grown each year of it's existence and now numbers over a hundred children who come down and swim each week for Lynbrook.
Some individual highlights this season have been: Joey Virgona and Matthew Swanson in forming a strong duo competing in the 8 and under butterfly, backstroke and relay teams; Breanna Renz's continued strong performance in the 10 and under 50 yard butterfly; Sarah Hawxhurst's strength in the 10 and under girls 50 yd freestyle; Amanda Swanson and Emma Carey consistency in the 10 and under girls 50 yd Breaststroke; Lauren and Lindsey Wiese anchoring the 11-12 girls squad and their performance in the freestyle and breaststroke events; Sarah Ainsely in the 12-14 girls freestyle and butterfly events; and Lauren Bender in the girls backstroke and freestyle events.
