This weekend forget your problems, throw on some comfy clothes, grab the family and hurry to Belmont Racetrack. Then watch your kids' faces light up as they take in the Ferris wheel, roller coaster and all the other rides and attractions.
The Belmont Stakes Fair is back at Belmont Racetrack, bigger and better than ever. With over 100 spectacular rides, games, and attractions for the whole family, it'll make you feel like a kid again.
This year's rides include a 200-foot roller coaster and the Niagara Falls log flume. And the Granpa Cratchet Puppet Show is back by popular demand. Little ones will giggle at Granpa's slapstick show. You can also catch Granpa, between shows, driving around the fairgrounds in his puppetmobile.
Don't miss Philips Exotic Petting Zoo, which features over 50 exotic animals that you can pet and feed, or the Wild World of Animals Show, which is both educational and exciting, with lots of extraordinary animals and audience participation.
Visit the fun house for a laugh, or the haunted house to make your heart race just a little bit faster. Afterwards, you can calm down by taking a spin on the carousel. Kids will love the swings, pirate ship and other rides that will have them spinning in circles and flying through the air. And for the toddlers, there are over a dozen kiddie rides.
When you're done with the rides, why not try to win a gigantic stuffed animal? Then fill up on cotton candy, hamburgers, hot dogs and lots of other delicious goodies.
The fair is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. My favorite part, says Debbie Jahier, event coordinator for the fair, is seeing families together and the looks on the kids' faces as they walk into the fair. It's such a great feeling to know that there's someplace local, where families can come together, to enjoy themselves together. Seeing them laughing and having a great time is wonderful.
Debbie's favorite attraction is the illusion show. Everyone really loves that, she says excitedly. It's interactive and so much fun. Although the show is called The Magic of Gifford and Roy, Lance Gifford and Jarrod Blocker are the stars. Roy was Gifford's old partner, explains Blocker.
We do a magic and illusion show, consisting of seven illusions, says Blocker. In one of the illusions, Split Personality, I get inside a mummy case and Lance sticks rods through my body and then my feet pull apart and I get split all the way up to my chin.(Ouch!)
We do another illusion called Metamorphose, where I get handcuffed into a box, and Lance locks the box, then we have a curtain that covers it. He counts to three, throws off the curtain and I catch it.
During Split Personality, one person from the audience comes up on stage and pulls the mummy case apart. With Metamorphose, we get a child up on stage and he/she bangs on the trunk, to show that it's real. The kids love it, says Debbie. And you will too!
