Tea Party donates tree to Rockville Centre

Members of the Rockville Centre Tea Party dedicated a tree and plaque in the Village Green on July 5 in commemoration of those lost during the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

The tree chosen for the dedication is a three-stemmed river birch, said Tea Party co-organizer Mickey Clark, and each major trunk of the tree represents a place where some of the nearly 3,000 people were lost that day: Ground Zero at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pa. The river birch, said Clark, is a native tree, resilient and “most worthy of representing those who were lost.”

Clark said he and co-organizer Bryan Korman, as well as fellow Tea Party members encourage other village organizations to make similar live tree donations to the village to replace those lost to past storms.
