Teachers' ideas lead to grants

Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) has announced the winners of its 2009 Funding Your Ideas (FYI) Teacher Grant program. A total of $13,028 was distributed in the form of grant awards to 60 educators in schools throughout Nassau County, helping to support their innovative classroom projects.

Of the 60 educators to receive these grants, two teachers in the East Meadow Union Free School District were recipients: Dr. John Healy, art teacher at Woodland Middle School, and Ms. Wendy Wansor, science teacher at W. Tresper Clarke Middle school.

Healy’s grant was used to purchase art supplies for a mural created by the students depicting aspects of the justice system. With the cooperation of Judge Anthony Marano, this mural will be displayed in the Supreme Court Building in Mineola.

Wansor’s grant will be used by the school’s Garden Club to continue the beautification of the main entrance at Clarke Middle School.
