A white board is a large, touch-controlled screen that works with a projector and a computer. Students and teachers can write on the interactive white board in digital ink or use a finger to control computer applications by pointing, clicking and dragging, just as with a desktop mouse.
"We need to give our children the skills necessary to excel in a technologically advancing world," Skelos said. "This plan for technological upgrades in the Lynbrook School District will familiarize students with cutting edge technology and better prepare our children for college and a globally competitive career."
Assistant Superintendent of Business, Dr. Melissa Burak, said the purchasing of the white boards in conjunction with the projection devices in the district, will allow for dynamic teaching in the classroom. Burak said the white boards will be put in the high school and middle schools. "The white boards are more interactive, therefore more dynamic," Burak said. "We are very proud of the technology program, and every time we get grants like this, we are very appreciative."
Superintendent of schools, Dr. Santo Barbarino, said he was pleased Skelos secured the funds for the technological advances in the district, but it did not surprise him. "Skelos never fails to demonstrate his support for education," Barbarino said. "We are most appreciative, and the purchase of the white boards will provide instruction that is most effective and somewhat magical. Senator Skelos is there for us and we cannot thank him enough."
