A special "Dor L'a Dor" (generation-to-generation) Shabbat Service on Saturday morning was a moving multi-generational moment that honored longtime congregants, some of whom have been members for over fifty years, along with their children and grandchildren. Many newer members and their young children also joined the congregation's spiritual leader, Rabbi Barry Dov Schwartz on the Bima (pulpit) and were honored at the milestone service.
A gala dinner dance on Saturday night was the crowning moment for a committee that had worked for months to make a year of centennial projects and fundraisers a success. That committee was led by Shirley Gabel and Board Chairman Ken Gabel, who along with former temple president Sy Entin, was responsible for the fundraising aspects of the centennial celebration.
On Sunday morning, students from the Jewish Learning Center at the synagogue joined in a family mural painting party that took place in the newly-renovated youth lounge, a popular gathering place for Jewish teens and "tweens." Each child painted a tile that will be assembled into a mural to mark the temple's centennial. The mural will be prominently situated at the entrance of the synagogue. Educational Director Claudia Lieberman, who attended Hebrew school at Temple B'nai Sholom when she was growing up in Rockville Centre, said, "Our Hebrew school is the first step on the road of lifelong Jewish learning. The centennial mural represents the first part of their [the students'] journey at Temple B'nai Sholom."
