The Appliance Doctor in Oceanside continues its services

Ron Hernstat, a lifelong Oceanside resident, is known as “Doctor Ron” through his appliance repair business, The Appliance Doctor.

The service company has been in the town for about 40 years. While coronavirus has caused some of Doctor Ron’s business to decline, and employees to leave work for periods of time to avoid risk of infection, he said the shop is still fully functioning and ready to make house visits when appliances need fixing.

“We’re trying to help everyone that we can right now in this trying time,” Doctor Ron said. “People need their refrigerators and ovens to cook because they’re in the house more.”

The Appliance Doctor services a range of appliances, including washers, dryers, ovens, refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners, of all makes and models.

Doctor Ron and his staff of about four mechanics serve the south shore of Nassau county. They now wear full protective equipment, including gloves and N95 masks, to ensure safety of themselves and customers.

In addition, Doctor Ron screens each client whose home he visits to ensure they are not, and have not been, sick to prevent potential spread of the virus.

“We’re being very careful,” he said. “We ask all kinds of questions before we come in to make sure you're OK.”

Doctor Ron added that if customers are uncomfortable with having a mechanic come to their home, they could call the shop to get advice on how to fix their appliance.

“We’re still out there servicing people,” Doctor Ron concluded, “making sure they can get their appliances fixed. Because people still have to cook and clean.”
