McDonough said he "is very excited about this opportunity to follow in the footsteps of retiring Village Justice Frank Yannelli and to serve with Village Justice Bill Croutier." McDonough will be running as an independent candidate and will not be affiliated with any of the local political parties. However, he has formed a Campaign Committee which presently has over 80 volunteers. Helping to coordinate and manage the campaign will be village residents David Blumenthal, Thomas Bucaria, Bud Cosgrove, Henry Davoli, Jane Houdek, Fred Levine, Michael O'Riley and Glen Ravn.
McDonough and his wife Susan have been village residents for 20 years and have raised their two children in Rockville Centre. He is a partner in the Garden City law firm of Spellman Rice Schure Gibbons McDonough & Polizzi, LLP. A graduate of the State University of New York at Albany, McDonough served four years in the United States Army before attending Fordham University Law School and graduating in 1988.
McDonough previously served as an Assistant Village Prosecutor for nine years. He has also been very active in the Rockville Centre community, and is presently a member of the St. Agnes CYO Board, president of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Senior Services, Inc. which supports the Sandel Senior Center. He also serves as volunteer legal counsel to the Rockville Centre St. Patrick's Parade, Inc. and is a member of the Rockville Centre Over 40 Men's Basketball League.
McDonough is also a past member of the St. Agnes Father's Club and has been a coach in the RVC Soccer League, a coach and coordinator for St. Agnes CYO Basketball, a coach and commissioner in the RVC Basketball League, a manager and coach in RVC Little League and a past president of the RVC Kiwanis Club.
Noting that Rockville Centre has one of the busiest Village Courts in New York State McDonough said the village has been fortunate to have such outstanding Village Justices as Robert Williams, Frank Yannelli and Bill Croutier. McDonough also said that he believes in public service and has the qualifications and experience to serve as a Village Justice.
