The ever-popular East Rockaway eatery The Fishery opened Memorial Day weekend after having suffered extensive damage due to Hurricane Sandy.

The outside deck was filled with residents, friends and well-wishers on the sunny holiday. Although the restaurant itself may not be open for business for another six weeks or so, the new owners provided entertainment, good drinks, and barbecue burgers for the holiday weekend crowd.

“We are excited to be part of the great community,” said co-owner Shaun Manning. “As new owners, we want to make sure everyone knows The Fishery is your restaurant and bar to enjoy great food, drinks and music.”

The outdoor bar included a new stone wall and a new stereo system. The restaurant itself needed a new electrical system and a hot water heater, among other things. When the restaurant opens — the owners hope that it will coincide with the village’s Stars & Stripes Festival around the end of June, beginning of July.
