On Monday August 12, from 4-7 p.m., The Fishery in East Rockaway, at One Main St., will be hosting a fundraiser for East Rockaway resident and ERHS graduate Jalisa Barnes. On May 13, Jalisa was infected with a rare and severe blood infection, Group A Streptococcus, resulting in necrotizing Fasciitis and Streptococcal Toxic Shock Syndrome. She has lost both her legs, her right and left thumb, and minimal to no use of her arms.
Jalisa's had over 20 surgeries with much more to come. All donations will be going towards Jalisa’s hospital, medical care and recovery expenses that she will need to regain as much of her life back as possible.
There will be an open bar and selected menu items for a $40 cash donation, 50 percent of which will be going to Jalisa. All additonal donations and raffle procedes will go to Jalisa in total, and can be cash or check made out to "Jalisa Barnes."
