As part of their 2013 summer celebration, The Village of East Rockaway will be presenting Plaza Theatrical Production’s summer touring production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Broadway musical, The Sound of Music, live onstage, accompanied by a full twenty-six piece orchestra, on Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park on Atlantic Avenue.
Plaza Theatrical’s producer, and East Rockaway resident, Kevin Harrington, said that “with everything our area has faced as a result of Hurricane Sandy, Phyllis and I are delighted to bring this particular musical to the village we call home. The Sound of Music has become a beacon of hope and joy for generations.”
The Sound of Music is one of the most beloved and inspirational stories of all time. It is a tale of love and courage. As Rodgers and Hammerstein's final triumphant collaboration, based on the true story of the von Trapp family, this family musical features such iconic melodies as "My Favorite Things," “Do-Re-Me,” "Edelweiss," and "Climb Every Mountain."
Audience members should bring folding chairs or blankets, and are welcome to bring picnic dinners.
Other performances include Friday July 19 at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, 7 p.m. and Sunday July 21, 2013 at Morgan Park, Glen Cove, 7:30 p.m.
