Twenty-three Merrick elementary students have mastered the fine art of making sweet music.
They were recently selected to take part in the annual All-County Music Festival at the Tilles Center for Performing Arts in Old Brookville on Sunday, Jan. 14.
Not only did the students participate in the festival, one of their teachers did, as well. Merrick music coordinator Marcia Miller was named chairwoman of the Division I East Orchestra.
Merrick Superintendent Dr. Ronald Smith said, "The arts continue to flourish in Merrick as a result of widespread community support and the hard work of our music faculty. Congratulations to our students, their parents and their music teachers: Alice Alwine, Elizabeth Comito, Joseph Giametta, Claudia Greenspan, Marcia Miller, Kristy Montalbano, Peggy Weinstein and Judith Witmer."
Five Merrick students were also selected to take part in the Long Island String Festival at Berner Middle School in Massapequa on March 11. They are: David Li, Ian Li, Alexandra Sanky and Evan Solomon from Birch, and Audrey Szepinski from Chatterton. Photos by Lauri Mento
