Sofia, 17, and two other players, Ken Carney, 17, and Thomas Diasparra, 16, were charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, a federal felony, and convicted as juveniles of the assaults in January.
Conway sentenced the teenagers to rehabilitation. As part of the sentencing, Sofia was sent to boot camp, Carney to a residential treatment facility for juveniles, and Diasparra, who cooperated with prosecutors and testified against the other two, was given probation and is serving his time at his parents' home in Bellmore.
As part of the sentencing, Conway conducts reviews of the teenagers every three months to evaluate them. Last Friday, Sofia and Diasparra were under review, and both appeared before Conway at the Wayne Count Courthouse in Honesdale, Pa., to hear the outcome of his findings.
After Diasparra's review, he was given an additional six months of probation. Carney's review has been pushed back two months, and he is scheduled to appear before Conway sometime in July.
According to sources close to the case, Diasparra plans to try and reenter school in the Bellmore-Merrick Central District, by enrolling in Calhoun or Kennedy high schools. As part of their sentences, the disgraced football players cannot return to Mepham.
