The Hewlett-Woodmere School District’s Board of Education approved the appointments of three new administrative hires at a special meeting on May 28. All the new employees will begin on July 1, the beginning of the new school year.

Dr. Mary Bediako has been appointed interim executive director of Human Resources,. Bediako will succeed Dr. Edward Fale, who has been appointed interim superintendent for the Amityville School District. Bediako is currently the interim assistant superintendent for Human Resources in the Roosevelt district.

“I have dedicated my career to human resources management, and am grateful for the opportunity to put my experience to work for Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools,” Bediako said in a statement. “I look forward to meeting and collaborating with my new colleagues to bring about positive change for all employees.”

Dr. Andrew Fund was named the new director of Art and Music. He has worked in the district for the past eight years, providing string lessons and serving as an orchestra teacher for students in grades 4 to 12. He is assuming the role previously held by Walter Lastowski, who retired after more than 25 years with the district.

“I am honored to be selected to preserve and continue the district’s legacy of excellence in both music and art,” Fund said. “I look forward to working collaboratively with district administration and the outstanding music and art faculty to further expand our visibility, reputation, and educational experiences for our students in the arts.”

Phillip McEneaney has been appointed the director of Health, Safety and Security. Since January, McEneaney has served as the district’s interim director, a position he assumed after the resignation of Frank DeLeo.

Before joining Hewlett-Woodmere, McEneaney was a member of the New York City Police Department for more than 20 years, serving his last two years on the force as the commanding officer of the CompStat Unit.

“I look forward to continuing to serve Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools and putting my years of law enforcement experience to work for this wonderful community,” McEneaney said. “The relationships I have already formed with district administrators and our excellent security staff will allow me to develop additional programs and procedures to maximize safety for all students, staff, and visitors.”
