Thunderettes score in first competition of season

The Grace Thunderettes Show Squad did well in its first competition of the season in Smithtown on March 8, with two teams winning second and fifth place, respectively, according to director Nancy Wasek.

The younger girls on the Bumblebees twirling team took second place in their age group, and the juvenile Diamonds team took fifth place.

The participants are grouped according to average ages and ability level, Wasek said.

She said the Thunderettes have more competitions scheduled in the coming weeks. They perform at events located across the region.

Wasek said the group will be fundraising to make it to a large competition in Myrtle Beach later in the season.
