Following three excessively hot days, Nassau County residents should prepare for more “hazardous" weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning and hazardous weather outlook for Nassau County.
The storms are capable of producing quarter-sized hail and strong, damaging wind gusts, the NWS said in a statement.
Downpours, lightening and thunder have already been reported in central Long Island.
The forecast for the next few days from the NWS is as follows:
Late Afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Partly sunny, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 100. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 71. Calm wind becoming north around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. North wind around 9 mph.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 64. North wind between 6 and 9 mph.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 81. North wind around 7 mph.
Sunday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
