Starting, as always, inside Veterans Memorial Park parking lot, the youngsters made their way down to the ballfields on Merrick Avenue, waving to the residents who turned out on street corners to cheer them along.
One of the largest of its kind on Long Island, the East Meadow Little League comprises well over 1,000 boys and girls, ranging in age from 5 to 18. About 50 more kids make up the league's challenger division, which is for the disabled.
