According to Nassau County detectives, Charles Parsley, 24, of 188 N. Centre Ave. was taken into custody at 1:52 a.m. on March 23. His arrest came after Officer Seward, while on routine patrol, spotted Parsley "acting suspiciously" in front of 19 Locust Ave. During the investigation, Parsley allegedly pushed Seward and ran from the scene. Seward caught up to Parsley and tried to arrest him. Police say Parsley kicked and fought with Seward before being taken into custody. Parsley was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and marijuana.
Seward was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released for bruises to his ribs and knee, and for wrist sprains.
Parsley is charged with assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
Officer Seward received his commendation for "dedicated performance of duty" that resulted in the Feb. 9 arrest of a subject for criminal possession of a weapon, a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun found in the trunk of a car, an active warrant and six violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.
In its written statement, the police department described Seward's "diligence, dedication to duty and highly professional conduct."
