She added that the organization works closely with social workers from the schools to determine which families might be struggling at home.
The Christmas Angel has helped secure contracting services, plumbing, furniture and clothing, as well as provided mortgage and rental assistance.
Sofield added that she thinks the Long Beach community is especially willing to reach out to charities because of its diverse population.
“People care about their neighbors and because we are so diverse socioeconomically and I feel like we are intimately connected with each other,” she said.
