Residents looking to beat the heat will have an extra day to enjoy Town of Hempstead swimming pools this summer.

Town Supervisor John Ferretti announced that the town's 23 public pool facilities will open June 19, one day earlier than originally scheduled. The pools will operate seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. throughout the summer season.

"As temperatures climb, our residents are looking for safe, affordable ways to stay cool and enjoy the summer," Ferretti said in a news release. "By opening our pools a day early, we're giving families, children and seniors an extra opportunity to beat the heat and make the most of the season."

The Town of Hempstead's pool system serves hundreds of thousands of residents each year and remains one of the most widely used amenities within the town's parks and recreation network. Facilities offer a range of activities, including recreational swimming, lap swimming, swim lessons and family-oriented outings.

Town officials said the pools provide more than just relief from summer temperatures. The facilities also serve as gathering places where residents can stay active, spend time with family and friends and enjoy outdoor recreation in a supervised setting.

Lifeguards and pool staff will be on duty throughout the season to help ensure the safety of visitors. Officials said maintaining a safe and welcoming environment remains a priority as families return to the pools for another summer.

The town offers both day passes and seasonal memberships, with rates varying by facility. Group reservations are also available with the appropriate permit.

Residents seeking information about memberships, pool rules or group reservations may call the Department of Parks and Recreation at (516) 292-9000, ext. 7329.

Ferretti said the town takes pride in maintaining high-quality recreational facilities for residents across its communities.

"We are proud to maintain some of the finest recreational facilities anywhere on Long Island," he said. "Our pools are a summertime tradition for so many families across the township. Whether you're teaching your child how to swim, getting some exercise in, or simply spending a relaxing afternoon with loved ones, our facilities provide something for everyone. We look forward to welcoming residents back for another safe, fun and memorable summer season."

The early opening comes as local officials prepare for the start of the busy summer recreation season, when town pools, parks and beaches typically see an increase in visitors. Town leaders encouraged residents to take advantage of the facilities and the variety of recreational opportunities available throughout the summer months.
