Local Scouts Matthew Goldstein, Cody Olzewski and Kevin Kimmons, of Rockville Centre’s Troop 214, reached the highest class in Scouting last week, when they were officially declared Eagle Scouts.
The village has a rich history in Scouting — Arthur Eldred, the first Eagle Scout in history, was a member of Rockville Centre’s Troop 1.
In order to achieve Eagle, Scouts must earn 21 merit badges — 12 of which, including Citizenship in the Community, First Aid, and Personal Management, are required — and organize and see to completion a community service project on their own initiative.
