Long Beach detectives arrested Jianhong Wang, 42, and Huiqin Zhu, 45, both of Flushing, Queens, and charged them with offering sexual services to clients of their acupuncture business, Ying-Yang Massage Center, in suite 2B of 350 National Blvd., which is directly across Park Avenue from City Hall. Wang was charged with promoting prostitution, a class A misdemeanor, and Zhu was charged with prostitution, a class B misdemeanor. In addition, both were charged with unauthorized practice of a licensed profession, a class E felony.
The charges stemmed from a number of complaints the department had received regarding the business, said Detective Lt. Vincent Buscemi, the commanding officer of the detective division. A month-long investigation ensued, Buscemi said, culminating in Tuesday's undercover sting operation. During the arrests, cash and business records were seized.
"In 28 years in the department, this is a first for me," Buscemi said Wednesday. "We've obviously arrested street walkers and individual prostitutes, but we've never had an actual house of prostitution since I've been here."
The women were scheduled to be arraigned in Long Beach City Court Wednesday, after the Herald's deadline.
