Heather Loughran, 16, was chosen second team All-State and Katie Lores, also 16, was picked third team All-state. The girls, both sophomores, were chosen during the 2006 playoffs for the season, and were informed of their honor in July.
"The girls are third and fourth players we've had from the school being names to these teams," said their Coach Joe Lores. "And it's the first time two players from the same team won in the same season." Loughran is also the first pitcher to be named from the high school. The Lady Rocks made it to the state semifinals this year.
Loughran hit a school record with strikeouts for the season, with 199, and Katie led the team in hitting with a .402 average.

Coach of the Year
Joe Lores, 48, the girls' coach, was named Nassau County Coach of the Year by Newsday. Lores, who has a 196-119 record in 15 seasons, also coached the East Rockaway girls soccer team to the Nassau Conference VII title in the fall and the boys basketball team to the Nassau Class C title in February.
Lores, who has been coaching for 15 years, was picked out of 56 Nassau County public high schools. "I like to say that they picked us," said Lores, who credits his varsity softball assistant coaches Cliff Krug and Patrick Lilly with the title bestowed upon him.
