Two people shot at home, schools locked down

Two people were shot at a village home on Monday morning. Police say the injuries are not life threatening and the suspects remain at large.
Police remained on the scene at 130 N. Montgomery St. for several hours on Monday morning. It is the last house of the dead end street. A neighbor who lives across the street said he saw numerous police cars pull up about 7:30 a.m. but did not know what had happened.
Districts 24 and 30 placed all of its schools on lockdown for about an hour. "I'm glad we locked it down because the schools are so close," said District 30 Superintendent Dr. Elaine Kanas. Shaw Avenue School is just three blocks away.
Kanas explained that a lockdown means no one is allowed to enter or leave the school. "The kids had their normal day," she said. "Within the buildings, everything went on as usual."
The lockdown began about 8:30 a.m., Kanas said, just 10 minutes after all students had arrived for the day.
District 24 Superintendent Dr. Edward Fale said he was told by police that there was a search for people who had fled a crime scene, and it would be advisable to lockdown the schools.
In District 13, Wheeler Avenue School was placed on lockdown as were Memorial Junior High School, Central High School and South High School in the high school district.
Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
