"Unfortunately, the negotiation phase of our operation did not prove successful," Toback said. "The demonstrations on Thursday will be the first part of our agitate and demonstrate phase and we hope that this will motivate the owner of the building and the tenant to positive actions."
On Thursday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m., Toback along with protesters will be picketing in front of 350 Northern Blvd., in Great Neck, the offices of the owner of the Platinum Club building. Later in the day on Thursday, Councilman James Sanders Jr. and Toback will hold another protest at 9 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Platinum Club, located at 248-58 Rockaway Boulevard. The overall effort against the billboard has has been entitled, "The Sign Must Go!"
“We are going to send a clear message to the owners of the Platinum Club that their billboard isn’t welcome here," Councilman Sanders said. "If they won’t remove their billboards voluntarily, we will ensure that their business is hurt. This is only the beginning of the war against open pornography. We will fight to the bitter end for our children.”
This comes after Councilman Sanders and Legislator Toback hosted an emergency meeting at the White Shul in Far Rockaway on Monday, Dec. 1, to lay out the plan that is currently in motion. Hundreds of community residents turned out to voice there concerns about the offensive billboard.
“As a parent I am outraged that children are being subjected to this type of immodesty,” Toback said. “I will pledge to take all steps necessary within the law to have this inappropriate signage removed from our community.”
