Long Beach to host annual Fall Festival
On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the city hosts Long Beach’s Fall Festival at Kennedy Plaza. The event will feature craft vendors, a carousel, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, music, hayrides and more. The costume parade begins at the recreation fields on Saturday at 12 p.m. Fees are charged for some attractions.
Rescheduled McAvoy 5-Miler hits boardwalk
The Annual Robert C. McAvoy Labor Day 5-Mile Run was postponed last month, and is rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8 at 8 a.m. on the boardwalk at Laurelton Boulevard. The entrance fee for pre-registrants is $25 (before Oct. 6 at 3 p.m.) and day-of-race registration will be $30. Day of race registration and t-shirt pick-up will take place at Laurelton from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Anyone who pre-registered for the race in September will have their fee applied to this race. Steel Silk Band to visit the Library
On Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2:30 p.m., the Steel Silk Band will perform at the Long Beach Public Library. The group was founded in 2014 with the intent of performing some of the top songs from some of the biggest artist’s from the 60’s to today. The band is comprised of top musicians and vocalists from the New York area, and covers songs from a variety of genres, including Classic Rock, Motown, R&B, and Country.
Long Beach Mustaches for Kids begins
The Long Beach Mustaches for Kids crew is returning for its 10th year to raise money for children with pediatric cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. On Saturday, Oct. 8, the growing season kicks off with Shave Day from 1 to 4 p.m. at Sutton Place — 124 W. Park Ave — where you can sign up for $10. Receive a pin and a shirt when you join.
