The Long Beach Library has adapted to the Covid-19 outbreak and has begun serious of online programs to keep the community engaged. Visit the library’s website for links to the Zoom meetings and more information.

Tuesday, April 14

The Best Short Stories: A Book Discussion

Join the staff online every Tuesday until the Library buildings reopen for a book discussion. This week, they’re talking short stories! Do you have a favorite short story or short story author? Whether you're into Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, Flannery O'Connor, or Junot Diaz, they'll be discussing their favorites. If you're finding it difficult to focus on a novel right now, this might be the perfect place to discover the literary gems you never knew were out there. The discussion starts at 1 p.m

The Long Beach Diaries: Share Your Experience

Long Beach Library is collecting and building a record of the community’s collective experiences through this worldwide pandemic. If you're interested in local history, please join librarian Eileen Pollis in this new weekly program where we’ll talk and share how COVID-19 is affecting our lives. Share your thoughts with writing, photos, recorded audio or video. The program starts at 2 p.m.

Late Night Game Night 

Do you have Nintendo Switch Online? Do you have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Come join Tanya and Tom for two hours of online play. Just e-mail your friend code to tsuarezmatos@longbeachlibrary.org. If participants want, we can set up a Discord chat just let Tanya know when you send her your friend code. Must have Nintendo Switch Online access and the game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Parent Survival Chat 

Put the kids to bed and come unwind and chat with Nicole and Jeannine, librarians and parents trying to navigate life at home with kids, work, and life...six feet apart. We’re hoping you need this as much as we do! Wine welcome.

Mommy and Me Yoga

Mommy and Me Yoga at 10 a.m. Carve out time for yourself and your little one with this Mommy and Me Yoga Class on Wednesday, April 15 at 10 a.m.

Knitting, Crocheting and Other Crafts

Whether you're knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching or any other craft, join library staff working on their own craft projects and chat on Wednesday at 10 a.m. To get the password, register for the class and it will be emailed to you.

Preschool Story Time

While the kids are out of school, be sure to join Mr. George for our online Preschool Storytime at 2 p.m. All Things Stephen King

All Things Stephen King

Is it starting to feel like The Stand to you out there? Worried someone in your life might pull a Jack in The Shining? If quarantining is Misery for you, then you might be ready to join library staff members for a discussion on all things Stephen King at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They'll chat favorite books, stories, movies, and more. You won't be The Outsider with this group.

Need a dose of pet therapy? Join Library staff with their pets and bring your own to smile for the camera from 10-11 a.m.

Meditation with Lisa

Unplug from the news and learn to relax and unwind in this unique online meditation class with Lisa Wisel, from 1-2 p.m. Re-center with an "embodiment" meditation which focuses on the senses and aliveness. Feel the benefits immediately

Preschool Yoga With Miss Liana

Join our popular preschool kids yoga class with instructor Miss Liana from 1:30-2 p.m.


Seinfeld Trivia Challenge

Are you convinced there will never be another sitcom like Seinfeld? If you have an affinity for puffy shirts, top-secret soups, and coffee table books about coffee tables, then join our Seinfeld Trivia Challenge and celebrate Festivus with the rest of us from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Match wits against fans who have an appreciation for shows about absolutely nothing, and re-live the adventures of Jerry, George, Elaine, Kramer.
Long Beach Library will be running weekly online trivia challenges during the COVID-19 quarantine, and winners will receive gift cards from local businesses. Have a business to nominate? Email them at info@longbeachlibrary.org.

Chair Yoga

The essence of yoga is to serve, love, give, purify, meditate, and realize. This virtual Chair Yoga class will focus on a full-body practice from head to toe and will help strengthen your nervous system and reduce stress and stiffness. Kathleen Regan has been practicing yoga since 1993. She is certified in Hatha/Raja Yoga and is a certified Kundalini instructor. The class is from 9-10 a.m.


Time for Kids Story Activity

Join Miss Isabella from 10:30-11 a.m. with this Story Activity.
The theme is: Pincer Grasp
Suggested materials:
-Kitchen toaster tongs or tweezer
-Cotton balls, pom-poms, or small items
-Musical instruments or two spoons

Things are changing rapidly for small businesses in this new economic climate. Join small business attorney Brittney Borruso P.C. from noon to 1 p.m. for a discussion about what's going on with small businesses and what the future might hold.


Friday Movie Discussion: 400 Blows

Join the library staff for our Friday Movie Discussion! This week they’re watching the film 400 Blows, which is freely available through Kanopy. So watch the movie for free using your Long Beach Library card, and then discuss the film on Friday from 1-2 p.m.


Drawing Club for Kids

Grab some paper, pencils, pens, markers, or crayons and join Miss Tanya on Zoom for an online version of our informal Drawing Club from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
