U.S. Rep. Kathleen Rice will be under self-quarantine until March 27 after coming into contact with an individual who had tested postive for coronavirus, according to a statement posted on her Facebook page early Thursday morning.
"I learned this evening that someone I was in contact with last Friday has tested positive for COVID-19," the statement said. "After consulations with the Attending Physician and out of an abundance of caution for those around me, I will be self-quarantining until Friday, March 27."
The statement indicated that Rice is currently not experiencing any symptoms, and that she feels "healthy and well."
Rice thanked the healthcare workers "on the front lines" of the outbreak, and advised anyone reading the message to take the matter "seriously."
"These are difficult times and it often requires difficult decisions to keep ourselves apart from our loved ones," the statement said. "When in doubt, just listen to the advice of our medical professionals."
