Valley Stream 13 students let the loud music play

Education experts have long hailed music’s ability to supercharge kids’ cognitive growth and improve brain health. Valley Stream District 13 fourth-grade students were able to do just that as they took part in the Nassau Music Educators Association Parent Educators and Kids Festival. The NMEA’s mission is to “enrich school music programs by nurturing student musicianship and empowering members through collaboration and professional development,” according to their website.

Students engaged in an interactive music learning experience, which included activities that ranged from performing vocals and drum rhythms to playing the ukulele. Through the musical learning experience, students were able to gain various benefits such as building their confidence, creative thinking, and working on their coordination skills.

“Valley Stream District 13 has a robust and comprehensive elementary music program that offers opportunities for all students,” said Superintendent Judith LaRocca. “These special events are available thanks to the dedication of music teachers in our district and in districts from across Nassau County. Thank you to our music teachers Johanna Land, Jaclyn Randazzo, Jeremy Arndt, Amy Yencharis, and Amanda Agosta for making it a musical day to remember.”
