Valley Stream Central, South high schools make magazine’s Top 100 list

Valley Stream Central High School was ranked No. 90 and Valley Stream South was ranked No. 95 on the U.S. News and World Report’s 2018 list of the 100 best high schools in New York.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Central High School Principal Joseph Pompilio, adding that the recognition is due to “the hard work of the teachers and students on a daily basis.”

South High School Principal Maureen Henry also expressed her to the teachers at the school. “I am extremely proud of all the hard work on behalf of our faculty and our students,” she said.

The schools were chosen based on how well schools serve all students, how many participate in opportunities such as Advanced Placement courses and on how well prepared the students are for college-level work. Schools were also recognized with gold, silver and bronze medals

indicating the greatest level of college readiness.
