Village Board
The board of trustees will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Music and a meal
A lunchtime concert will be held at the Hendrickson Park gazebo on Friday, July 10 at noon. Bring a brown bag lunch and enjoy some tunes.
Aquatic steps
The first adult pool dance of the summer will be held on Saturday, July 11 from 7 to 11 p.m.
Teen tunes
Teens and their guests can enjoy the music of 1-800 Let's Dance on Tuesday, July 14 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the pool.
Community Band
The Valley Stream Community Band will hold its next performance of the year on Tuesday, July 14 at 8 p.m. at the John Smith Band Shell.
Summer concert series
Central Beat will perform at the John Smith Band Shell on Wednesday, July 15 at 8 p.m. The rain date is July 20.

Young adult programs
A teen games night will be held on Friday, July 10. There will be a kickoff activity for the summer reading club followed by a team scavenger hunt, board games and more. A skit night will be held on Friday, July 17. Prizes will be awarded for the best performances. A video games night takes place on Friday, July 24. All programs begin at 6:30 p.m.
The Book Review
Children in grades 3-4 are invited to discuss "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" by Kate DiCamillo on Wednesday, July 29 at 4 p.m. Stop by the library to pick up a copy to read.
The Review Crew
Children in grades 5-6 will read and discuss "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" by E.L. Konigsburg on Thursday, July 30 at 4 p.m. Stop by the library to pick up a copy.
Reader's Theatre
Children in grades 3-6 are invited to share literature by reading aloud and performing scripts of popular children's stories. The children will participate in theater games, be assigned roles and rehearse scripts with their group, with a brief performance at the end of each session. The program meets on Thursdays July 16, 23, 30, Aug. 13 and 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Calling all teen photographers
Teens participating in the "Picturing America" exhibit will have selected photographs on display at the library throughout August. Each participant will receive a disposable camera at a session with a professional photographer on Thursday, July 9 at 6 p.m. Cameras must be returned to young adult services by Friday, July 31.
Chess Club
A six-week program for children in grades 3-6 will be held Mondays, July 13 through Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Improve your numerical, verbal and reasoning aptitude and have fun while learning to play chess.
Tuesday Feature Film
"Marty" will be shown on July 14 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13.
Game day
Adults are invited for a fun-filled afternoon of board games on Friday, July 17 at 1 p.m. Bring your own or play one the library's - bridge, scrabble, chess and more are available.
Help for caregivers
The Caregivers Support Group next meets on Tuesday, July 14 at 3 p.m. This open discussion is led by social worker Sari Flesch.
Defensive driving
A six-hour defensive driving course with the Empire Safety Council will be held on Tuesday, July 14 and Wednesday July 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Receive a 10 percent reduction on collision and auto liability insurance.
Jewelry workshop
Teens will make their own jewelry on Wednesday, July 15 at 6 p.m. Create a necklace, earrings or ankle bracelet by bending wire and using leather and beads.
Light up your life
Teens will make colorful lamp designs on Thursday, July 16 at 6 p.m. Create these designs using paper and permanent markers, then attach it to the exterior surface of the provided lamp.

Blood Drive
Franklin Hospital and Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive on Tuesday, July 21 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the hospital's Shankman Auditorium. Donors must be 16 to 75 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. All donors will receive a free mini-medical exam and a $5 Dunkin Donuts gift card. A blood drive will be held at G.W. Hewlett High School on Wednesday, July 29 from 3 to 8 p.m. in the yoga room. Summer months create a critical shortage of blood supplies on Long Island. Donors must be at least 17 years old and 110 pounds.
Health assessments
Registered Nurse June Friedel will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring at the Elmont Library on Thursday, July 16 at 10 a.m. She will be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling.
