Village Board
The board of trustees will hold its next work session on Monday, July 6 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the court room.
Fireworks show
The annual Fourth of July fireworks show will he held on Saturday, July 4 at Firemen's Field. The rain date is July 5. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Village Hall, Collision Concepts, the library or at the gate on the day of the event. The cost is $6 per person.
Movies at the Pool
"Up" will be show in the children's interactive play area on Monday, July 6 at 8:30 p.m.
Community Band
The Valley Stream Community Band will hold its first performance of the year on Tuesday, July 7 at 8 p.m. at the John Smith Band Shell.
Summer concert series
Powerglide will perform at the John Smith Band Shell on Wednesday, July 8 at 8 p.m. The rain date is July 10.
Pool party
A brown bag lunchtime concert will be held at the Hendrickson Park gazebo on Friday, July 10 at noon.

The first adult pool dance of the summer will be held on Saturday, July 11 from 7 to 11 p.m.
Town & County
Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St. in Hempstead.
County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, July 7at 6 p.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave. in Mineola.

Holiday closing
The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. It will re-open on Monday, July 6 at 10 a.m.
Reader's Theatre
Children in grades 3-6 are invited to share literature by reading aloud and performing scripts of popular children's stories. The children will participate in theater games, be assigned roles and rehearse scripts with their group, with a brief performance at the end of each session. The program meets on Thursdays July 16, 23, 30, Aug. 13 and 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Children's Room
The children's room has a wide variety of programs scheduled for June with children's librarian Jaclyn Kunz. Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Book Buddies
Teens in grades 7-12 are invited to read aloud to children age 3-5 each Monday in July at 3 p.m. All teen buddies must attend an orientation meeting on Monday, July 6 at 1 p.m.
Pictures books plus
Children ages 3-4 are invited to a reading of popular picture books on Tuesday, July 7 at noon. Make a craft to take home.
Tuesday Feature Film
"Married Life!" will be shown on Tuesday, July 7 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13.
Chi Gong
The next class will be held on Thursday, July 9 at 10 a.m. with instructor Cathy Anastasio.
Monster Hunt
Children in grades 3-6 are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt on Thursday, July 9 at 1 p.m.
Calling all teen photographers
Teens participating in the "Picturing America" exhibit will have selected photographs on display at the library throughout August. Each participant will receive a disposable camera at a session with a professional photographer on Thursday, July 9 at 6 p.m. Cameras must be returned to young adult services by Friday, July 31.

Pom, dance and baton classes
A summer program is being offered to children and teens by Nancy Wasek, director of the award-winning Thunderettes and PAL Twirlers. Classes take place on Saturdays at the Grace United Methodist Church from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Instruction in hip-hop, pom poms and baton are offered for children and teens of all ages. Alexandra Sasha Averko, a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator will speak on topic "Sweets for the Sweet" at the Elmont Library on Wednesday, July 8 at 11 a.m. Chocolate is making the new "Top 10" list of foods to enjoy for health promotion. A question and answer session with Sasha will follow.
Blood Drive
Franklin Hospital and Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive on Tuesday, July 21 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the hospital's Shankman Auditorium. Donors must be 16 to 75 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health. A photo ID is required. All donors will receive a free mini-medical exam and a $5 Dunkin Donuts gift card. Building fund concert
The Valley Stream Baptist Church will be hosting a building fund expansion fundraising concert on Saturday, July 11 from 7 to 9 pm. Donations are welcome. The church is located at 1865 N. Central Ave.
School supply collection
Bethlehem Assembly of God Church is looking to give away 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to students at its Aug. 16 block party.
