Village Board
The board of trustees will hold its next work session on Monday, June 1 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. A public hearing and regular business meeting will be held on Monday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the court room.
Barrett recreation program
Upcoming registration dates for the summer recreation program at Barrett Park are Saturday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, May 27 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Hendrickson Park administration building. Summer camp runs from July 1 to Aug. 14. The cost is $150 for children in the village ($90 per additional child) and $195 for Central High School District residents ($154 per additional child).
Summer sports skills
The final registration date for summer sports skills camps is Saturday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hendrickson Park administration building. The camps are lacrosse, flag football, soccer and baseball/softball, and are open to children entering grades 4-8. The cost is $85 for village residents and $90 for high school district residents. Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, June 2 at 7 p.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Lacrosse clinic
The town's annual lacrosse academy begins on June 22. There are seven four-day clinics to choose from. The cost is $60 per child and $45 for each additional child. It is open to youngsters age 7 to 15 who are Town of Hempstead residents. Applications are available online at www.toh.li/ content/rc/athletics/lacrosse.html.
County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting for Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.

Central memorial service
The Valley Stream Central High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation will hold a memorial service on Saturday, May 23 at 11 to honors students who served and sacrificed their lives in war. It will be held at the Central High School War Memorial located outside the school's main entrance.
Freddy Frogs tribute
A custom car show and concert, to pay tribute to late Valley Stream musician Freddy Frogs, will be held on Sunday, May 24 beginning at noon. The all-day event will take place at Buckley's, 159 S. Franklin Ave. There will be numerous bands and DJs including appearance by Gary Setzer, Rocket J, Johnny Angel an Debra Dynamite. For more information e-mail bdonnelly9@ verizon.net.
Memorial Day parade
The 89th annual Memorial Day parade will be held on Monday, May 25. It begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Wheeler Avenue School. The parade travels down Rockaway Parkway, then Valley Stream Boulevard, ending at the Village Green. A memorial service follows at the veterans monument. This year's grand marshall is American Legion Post 854 Vice Commander John Faust.
Defensive Driving
Registration is under way for an AARP driving course offered by the Valley Stream Jewish Center. It will be held on Thursday, June 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 322 N. Corona Ave. The cost is $12 for members and $14 for non-members. Space is limited so reserve a spot by calling (516) 561-2308.

Memorial weekend closing
The library will be closed from Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25 for the Memorial Day weekend. Be sure to check out your materials by 9 p.m. on Friday, May 22. The library will reopen on Tuesday, May 26 at 10 a.m.
Get your game on
A young adult video games night will be held on Friday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 will play Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero and more. There will be treats and prizes.
Passport van
The Town of Hempstead's One Stop Passport Van will visit the library on Monday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by the library's adult reference desk to set up an appointment and pick up an application and information about documents and fees.
Teen book chat
A young adult and parent book discussion will be held on Friday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. The selection is "Luna" by Julie Ann Peters. Participants will be entered in a raffle to win a free copy of the book.
Computer classes
The library will hold three computer classes on Saturday, June 6. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Microsoft Word Basics is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and a Microsoft Excel Basics class is offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Children's Room

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

The Peninsula Counseling Center will hold a triathlon to raise money for the Adam Cohen and Jonah Richman Adolescent Center on Sunday, June 7 at 7 a.m. at Hewlett High School.
