Village Board
The board of trustees will hold its next work session on Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the court room.
Handmade wares
A craft fair will be held in the Hendrickson pool parking lot on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Avoid a parking ticket
All parking permits are now on sale. The cost for a resident is $40 for two years. Business permits cost $100 for one year and non-resident permits are $425 for one year. All permits are effective May 1.
Summer sports camps
The next registration date for summer sports skills camps is Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hendrickson Park administration building. The camps are lacrosse, flag football, soccer and baseball/softball, and are open to children entering grades 4-8. The cost is $85 for village residents and $90 for high school district residents. Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Mobile Tax Office
Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Donald Clavin will bring his mobile tax office to the Elmont Library on on Thursday, May 7 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Residents can make in-person tax payments.
County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting for Monday, May 4 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.

Mums for mom
The Blessed Sacrament Parents Association will hold a Mother's Day plant sale this weekend in the school gym at 50 Rose Ave. Times are Saturday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be annuals in flats, four-inch potted plants, vegetables, herbs, hanging plants and patio planters.
Girl Scout goes for the gold
Kristen Wraith will hold an event for children in grades K-6 on Sunday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Central High School track. There will be races, games, face painting and prizes. Mother's Day goodies
Lutheran Church of Our Saviour will hold its annual Mother's Day bake and plant sale on Saturday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be baked goods, baskets, flowers, raffles and a white elephant table. The church is at 888 Rockaway Ave.
Food drive
The Valley Stream Post Office will be collecting food for Long Island charities. Letter carriers will pick up food from homes on May 9, or donations can be dropped off at the post office, 111 S. Franklin Ave., anytime through that date.

Computer classes
The library will hold three computer classes on Saturday, May 2. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Microsoft Word Basics is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and a Microsoft Excel Basics class is offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Teen craft night
A young adult Mother's Day craft night will be held on Friday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 can come and make a gift for their mother, grandmother or another loved one.
Book club
This month's selection is "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros. It will be discussed on Tuesday, May 19 at 7 p.m.
Library board
The Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public; ring bell at children's room entrance for admittance.
Children's Room

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

District 30 will host a meeting for parents about the new math program, Math Connects, on Tuesday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Shaw Avenue School library.
Fashion show fundraiser
The Central/Memorial PTSA will hold its annual fashion show and dinner on Thursday, May 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Coral House in Baldwin. The Valley Stream Lions Club will once again be offering scholarships to deserving graduating seniors who reside in the village. The scholarship committee will select the recipients on the basis of financial need, comparative academic standing, overall school, and community activities.
