Village Board
The board of trustees will hold its next work session on Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room.

Handmade wares
A craft fair will be held in the Hendrickson pool parking lot on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Avoid a parking ticket
Resident parking permits are now on sale. The cost is $40 for two years. A current original registration is needed. Business permits are also on sale at a cost of $100 for one year. Non-resident permits go on sale on Monday, April 27 and cost $425 for one year. All permits are effective May 1.

Summer sports camps
The next registration date for summer sports skills camps is Monday, April 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hendrickson Park administration building. The camps are lacrosse, flag football, soccer and baseball/softball, and are open to children entering grades 4-8. The cost is $85 for village residents and $90 for high school district residents. Town & County

Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, May 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.

County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting for Monday, May 4 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.

Teen poetry night
Winners of the 2009 Teen Poetry Contest will be honored on Friday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. Winning students will receive a certificate of achievement and prize and will be reading their original poems. Following the awards ceremony, members of Poets In Nassau will be participating in poetry readings from 7 to 8 p.m.

Book Club
The group will next meet on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. to discuss Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Wait Till Next Year." Joanne Bergbom will be the guest discussion leader, as part of the Long Island Reads initiative.

Computer classes
The library will hold three computer classes on Saturday, May 2. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Microsoft Word Basics is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and a Microsoft Excel Basics class is offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.

Teen craft night
A young adult Mother's Day craft night will be held on Friday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 can come and make a gift for their mother, grandmother or another loved one.

Children's Room
The children's room has a wide variety of programs scheduled for May with children's librarian Jaclyn Kunz. Live homework help
Families with young children, and adults seeking to support their studies or improve their math or grammar skills, have access to experts waiting to help through the library's Web site. It is available to library cardholders every day from 2 to 10 p.m. in English and Spanish. Log on to www.nassaulibrary.org/valleyst/ and go to the Live Homework Help link.

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Tuesday feature film
"The Reservations" will be shown on Tuesday, April 28 at 2p.m. The movie is rated R.

Chair exercises

Voice of Grandparents
The support group next meets on Friday, April 24 at 9:30 a.m. The discussion will be led by social worker Sari Flesch.

Cuddly creatures
A stuffable animals workshop for teens will be held on Tuesday, April 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Poetry writing
The next workshop with Dr. Linda Opyr will be held on Wednesday, April 29 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to write poetry and share what they've written.

Library Board
The board of trustees will hold its next meeting on Thursday, April 23. An executive session begins at 7 p.m. followed by the public session at 8.

Book of the month
This month's selection is "Wait Till Next Year" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Diana Heinlein and David Houston will do a reading of the books in the style of radio drama, with music and sounds from the 1940s and 50s, on Monday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m.


Schools

'The Boy Friend'
South High School thespians will present "The Boy Friend" on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Senior citizen gold card holders will be admitted free.

'Twinderella'
The Memorial Players will present "Twinderella, The Musical" on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at 7 p.m. in the Bert Keller Auditorium at Valley Stream Central High School. Tickets can be purchased on the night of the show for $7. Gold Card holders may attend Friday for free.

Greek tales
North High Schools' production of "The Iliad, the Odyssey and all of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less" takes place on Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for adults.

District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. at the James A. Dever School.

District 30
The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, April 27 at 8 p.m. in the Shaw Avenue School library.

Central High School District
The Board of Education will hold its next committee meeting on Tuesday, May 5 and its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 12. Both will be held at Memorial Junior High School at 8 p.m.

Fashion show fundraiser
The Central/Memorial PTSA will hold its annual fashion show and dinner on Thursday, May 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Coral House in Baldwin. Academic Munchkins

Girl Scout goes for the gold
Kristen Wraith will hold an event for children in grades K-6 on Sunday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Central High School track. There will be races, games, face painting, prizes and guest speakers. This is event is for her Girl Scout Gold Award. Bring used batteries to be recycled as an entrance fee. Pet party
Central Veterinary Associates of Valley Stream will sponsor a microchip clinic for National Pet Week on Sunday, May 17 from noon to 4 p.m. at Alley Pond Park on Springfield Boulevard in Queens. Valley Stream Basketball

Historical Society

Lions Club
The Valley Stream Lions Club will once again be offering scholarships to deserving graduating seniors who reside in the village. The scholarship committee will select the recipients on the basis of financial need, comparative academic standing, overall school, and community activities. Women's health lecture
In recognition of National Women's Health Month, Franklin Hospital will host a free lecture, "Breast and Cervical Health and Osteoporosis" on Tuesday, May 5 from from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It will be held in the Shankman Auditorium.
