Egg hunt rescheduled
The Recreation Department's annual Easter egg hunt will now be held on Saturday, April 18 at Hendrickson Park. Students in grades K-2 will hunt for eggs at 11 a.m. and students in grades 3-4 go at 11:45 a.m. Participants should meet at the kiddie playground on the east side of the park.
Easter Bunny visit Saturday
Children age 1 through pre-K can meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny at the Hendrickson Park administration building on Saturday, April 18 at 12:30 p.m. The bunnies will have candy treats for the children.
Parking permits
Resident parking permits will go on sale Monday, April 20. The cost is $40 for two years. A current original registration is needed. Business permits also go on sale that day at a cost of $100 for one year. Non-resident permits go on sale on Monday, April 27 at a cost of $425 for one year. All permits are effective May 1.
Summer camps
Registration for the summer sports skills camps will be held on Tuesday, April 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hendrickson Park administration building. The camps are lacrosse, flag football, soccer and baseball/softball, and are open to children entering grades 4-8. The cost is $85 for village residents and $90 for high school district residents. Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Tax forum
Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes Donald Clavin will speak at the Elmont Memorial Library on Wednesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. He will discuss tax discounts, property tax exemptions, how to challenge an assessment and payment options. The library is located at 700 Hempstead Tpke.
County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting for Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.

The teen scene
A young adult Spring Fling celebration will be held on Friday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 will make a craft, play games and win prizes. Registration is required.
Come out and color
The annual sidewalk chalk art show will be held on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to noon. Children of all ages can come to draw on the sidewalks outside the library. Chalk will be provided and certificates of participation will be awarded to each child. Following the chalk art show, Green Meadows Farm will present "Frogs, Bugs, and Animals." The rain date is Saturday, April 25.
Teen poetry night
Winners of the 2009 Teen Poetry Contest will be honored on Friday, April 24 at 6:30 p.m. Winning students will receive a certificate of achievement and prize and will be reading their original poems. Following the awards ceremony, members of Poets In Nassau will be participating in poetry readings from 7 to 8 p.m.
Book Club
The group will next meet on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. to discuss Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Wait Till Next Year." Joanne Bergbom will be the guest discussion leader, as part of the Long Island Reads initiative.
Computer classes
The library will hold three computer classes on Saturday, May 2. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Microsoft Word Basics is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and a Microsoft Excel Basics class is offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Children's Room
There are a wide variety of programs scheduled for April 2009 with Children's Librarian Jaclyn Kunz including Bouncing Babies, Alphabet Soup, Story Craft programs and other seasonal events. Registration is required for all programs with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders.
Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

The program for children ages 1-3 will be held on Monday, April 20 at 10:15 a.m. Enjoy movement, music and fingerplays.
Chair Yoga
The next class will be held on Monday, April 20 at 1 p.m. with instructor Mary Mazzone.
Tuesday Feature Film
"Dan in Real Life" will be shown on April 21 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13.
Teen spa
A spa aromatherapy workshop for teens will be held on Tuesday, April 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It will include recipes for shower gel, body oil and sugar scrub and a chance to make your own.
Chi Gong
The next class will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 10 a.m. with instructor Cathy Anastasio.
Library Board
The board of trustees will hold its next meeting on Thursday, April 23. An executive session begins at 7 p.m. followed by the public session at 8.
Book of the month
This month's selection is "Wait Till Next Year" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Diana Heinlein and David Houston will do a reading of the books in the style of radio drama, with music and sounds from the 1940s and 50s, on Monday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m.

District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next committee meeting on Tuesday, April 21 and its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, April 28. Both meetings are at the James A. Dever School and begin at 8 p.m.
District 24
The Board of Education will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 21 at the William L. Buck School. A work session begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 8:30.
District 30
The Board of Education will hold its next work session on Tuesday, April 21. The next regular business meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27. Both meetings are in the Shaw Avenue School library at 8 p.m.
SEPTA meeting
The Special Education Parent Teacher Association will next meet on Monday, April 20 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Junior High School.
Fashion show fundraiser
The Central/Memorial PTSA will hold its annual fashion show and dinner on Thursday, May 7 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Coral House in Baldwin. Women's health lecture
In recognition of National Women's Health Month, Franklin Hospital will host a free lecture, "Breast and Cervical Health and Osteoporosis" on Tuesday, May 5 from from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. It will be held in the Shankman Auditorium. League of Women Voters
The Southwest Nassau chapter invites the community to hear guest speaker Howard Weitzman, Nassau County comptroller, at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library on Monday, April 20 at 12:30 p.m. He will discuss the county's financial crisis.
Chamber of Commerce

The Valley Stream Lions Club will once again be offering scholarships to deserving graduating seniors who reside in the village. The scholarship committee will select the recipients on the basis of financial need, comparative academic standing, overall school, and community activities.
