Board of Trustees
The village board will hold its reorganization meeting on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Budget hearing
The Board of Trustees will hold a public hearing for the proposed 2009-10 budget on Monday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Parking permits
Resident parking permits will go on sale Monday, April 20. The cost is $40 for two years - May 1, 2009 through April 30, 2011. A current original registration is needed. Business permits also go on sale that day at a cost of $100 for one year.
Egg-citing
The Recreation Department's annual Easter egg hunt will be held on Saturday, April 4 at Hendrickson Park. Students in grades K-2 will hunt for eggs at 11 a.m. and students in grades 3-4 go at 11:45 a.m. Participants should meet at the kiddie playground on the east side of the park. Easter Bunny visit
Children age 1 through pre-K can meet Mr. and Mrs. Easter Bunny at the Hendrickson Park administration building on Saturday, April 4 at 12:30 p.m. The bunnies will have candy treats for the children. Make sure to bring your camera.

Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature has scheduled its next meeting for Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.

Puppet program
Chasing Rainbows, an interactive, multi-cultural puppet presentation for children ages 3-11, will be held at the Baha'i Center on Saturday, April 4 at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 and are available by calling Nadine Scharman at (516) 578-8219. Musical diversity
The third program in the More Musical Diversity in America series will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m. featuring bluegrass and folk music by Paul Helou. The program is for children ages 5 and up with a parent or caregiver. Tickets are required and are available in the children's room.
Computer basics
Three computer classes will be held on Saturday, April 4. The first class on Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. A Microsoft Word Basics class is scheduled from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. A Microsoft Excel Basics class is offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Poetry entries due
Submissions for the library's 11th annual teen poetry contest are due by Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m. The theme is "Express Yourself@the Library." Poets must be in grades 6-12 and entries must be original.
At teen scene...
A young adult Spring Fling celebration will be held on Friday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 will make a craft, play games and win prizes. Registration is required.
Book Club
The group will next meet on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. to discuss Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Wait Till Next Year." Joanne Bergbom will be the guest discussion leader, as part of the Long Island Reads initiative.
AARP Senior Tax Aide
Tax help will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday through April 14. Be sure to bring your W-2 form, all relevant bank and financial statements, 2008 tax forms and a copy of your 2007 tax return.
Children's Room
There are a wide variety of programs scheduled for March 2009 with Children's Librarian Jaclyn Kunz including Bouncing Babies, Alphabet Soup, Story Craft programs and other seasonal events. Registration is required for all programs with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders.
Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Chair Exercises

An hour of unrestricted playtime for children ages 18-35 months will be held on Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m.
Child IDs
Children may come for fingerprinting and a picture that will be laminated on an ID to take home. The program will be held on Saturday, April 4 from noon to 3 p.m. A parent must accompany child to sign permission form.
Sounds of Ireland
Hear the Celtic stylings of Kokila on Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m.
Teen Advisory Group
The next meeting will be held on Saturday, April 4 from 2 to 3 p.m. Help decide the books, music and programs the library offers for young adults.
Chair Yoga
The next class will be held on Mondays, April 6 at 1 p.m. with instructor Mary Mazzone.
Tuesday Feature Film
"Moliere" will be shown on April 7 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated R.
Chi Gong
The next class on this ancient Chinese system of exercises or movements will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 10 a.m. with instructor Cathy Anastasio.
Tax help for seniors
Free tax help will be offered by the Town of Hempstead every Monday from noon to 3 p.m. A tax preparation program offered by Hofstra University will be held every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Bridge With Mimi
Intermediate level classes are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner's class - you must have experience in playing the game.

The Valley Stream Council of PTAs will hold its next meeting on Monday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Clear Stream Avenue School.

The Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, April 7 at 8 p.m. at Memorial Junior High School.
District 13
The Board of Education will hold its next committee meeting on Tuesday, April 21 and its next regular business meeting on Tuesday, April 28. Both meetings are at the James A. Dever School and begin at 8 p.m.
District 24
The Board of Education will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, April 21 at the William L. Buck School. A work session begins at 7:30 p.m. followed by the business meeting at 8:30.
District 30
The Board of Education will hold its next work session on Tuesday, April 21. The next regular business meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 27. Both meetings are in the Shaw Avenue School library at 8 p.m.
Academic Munchkins

Cancer Support Group

Look Good, Feel Better
This free program, to teach women how to cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment, will be held in Franklin Hospital's Shankman Auditorium on Monday, April 6 from 1 to 6 p.m. Professional cosmetologists will teach special techniques to minimize the effects of hair loss and skin changes. Ask the Nutritionist
Alexandra Sasha Averko, a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, will speak at the Elmont Library on Wednesday, April 8 at 11 a.m. The topic will be "To Buy Organic or Not." Learn which foods have the highest and lowest pesticide residue. A question and answer session will follow.
Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program
