Board of Trustees
The village board will hold its next work session on Monday, March 2 at 6 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Movies at Village Hall
"College Road Trip" will be shown in the Village Hall court room on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Free tickets will be available at the Hendrickson Park administration building one week before the showing.

County Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature will hold its next meeting on Monday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.
Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Black History Month
The Town of Hempstead will host a Black History Month celebration on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.

Goowin's Balloowins
Children ages 4-12 are invited to this interactive, creative dramatics presentation featuring storytelling, theatre and balloons on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Volunteers from the audience will be asked to help act out the stories. Registration is required and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Valley Stream Book Club
This month's selection is "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemmeets. A discussion will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the children's room.
Musical Diversity in America
"Singing the Stories of the West" with Ernie Sites will be presented on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. This program is for children ages 5 and up with a parent or caregiver. Through traditional and contemporary Western music, Cowboy Ernie will educate the audience about historical facts, western customs, and cowboy culture in a lighthearted program. Kids will participate in sing-a-longs, and storytelling as they learn an accurate history of the west. Tickets are required for the performance and are available in the children's room.
Young adult nights
A young adult games night will be held on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 p.m. This is a change from the original date. Teens will play board games, participate in a scavenger hunt and receive prizes. The program is open to students in grades 6-12.
Computer classes
Three computer classes will be offered on Saturday, March 7. Internet Basics and Library Databases will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Microsoft Word Basics from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and Microsoft Excel Basics from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Registration is required for the program.
AARP Senior Tax Aide
Tax help will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday through April 14. Be sure to bring your W-2 form, all relevant bank and financial statements, 2008 tax forms, and a copy of your 2007 tax return.
Children's Room
There are a wide variety of programs scheduled for February 2009 with Children's Librarian Jaclyn Kunz including Bouncing Babies, Alphabet Soup, Story Craft programs and other seasonal events. Check the children's room calendar in the library or online at www.nassaulibrary.org/valleyst/

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Tax help for seniors
Free tax help will be offered by the Town of Hempstead every Monday from noon to 3 p.m. A tax preparation program offered by Hofstra University will be held every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Bridge With Mimi
Intermediate level classes are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner's class - you must have experience in playing the game.
Movie Day
"Aristocats" will be shown on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. and "Wall-E" follows at 4 p.m. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Manga madness
A drawing workshop for teens will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Learn how to draw Japanese-style illustrations with a help of professional artist.
Book discussion
This month's reading selection is "I Feel Bad About My Neck" by Nora Ephron. A discussion will be held on Monday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.
Tuesday feature film
The movie "Amazing Grace" will be shown on Feb. 24 at 2 p.m.
Toddlers in Motion
A Toddlers in Motion program for babies 6 months to 2 will be held on Monday, Feb. 23 at 10:15 a.m. Parents can enjoy movement, fingerplays, and favorite children's songs with their kids.
Storytime
Pre-School Storytime for kids ages 3 1/2 to 5 will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 1:20 p.m.
Family workshop
A Parent/Child Workshop for families will be held on Fridays, Feb. 27, March 6, 13, 20, 27 and April 1 at 11:30 a.m.

Hearing seminar
A hearing and quality of life seminar will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 100 Peninsula Blvd. in Lynbrook. Free heart screening
Franklin Hospital will be offering a free heart health screening on Tuesday, Feb. 24 for American Heart Month. Blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings will be provided by hospital staff in the Shankman Auditorium from 9 to 11 a.m. Appointments are necessary. Health Assessments
Registered nurse June Friedel will be at the Elmont Library on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. She will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring, and will be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling.

Chamber of Commerce

AHRC Auxiliary brunch
The North Woodmere- Valley Stream Auxiliary of AHRC Nassau will host a St. Patrick's Day brunch on Sunday, March 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Cannon's BlackThorn, 49 N. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre. There is a donation of $30 per adult and $20 per child which will benefit children and adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Historical Society
Judge Robert Bogle will give a historical perspective of the New York State village justice system on Thursday, March 19 at 8 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the Valley Stream Historical Society and will be held at the Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Brooklyn Avenue and Seventh Street. American Legion

Adult Bible Study
Holy Name of Mary Church will host an adult bible study next month. On Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, there will be a study of the Gospel according to Luke with Deacon Clyde. Luke recounts the story of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. On Thursday, March 5 at 9:45 a.m. in the outreach building, there will be an introduction to Genesis with Jo Pascuzzi.
