Village Board of Trustees
The next regular business meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Unclaimed funds
Michael Caplice, the Long Island representative from State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's office, says that there are more than 11,700 claims owed to Valley Stream residents. He will be at the Village Hall on Thursday, Feb. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. to help residents determine if they are owed money.
Planning Board
A public hearing will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Village Hall board room. The planning board will consider the case of Alex Rivero who seeks to build a new home at 30 Lois Place.
Architectural Review Board
The next meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall board room.
Movie at Village Hall
"Wall-E" will be shown in the Village Hall court room on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Free tickets will be available at the Hendrickson Park administration building one week before the showing.
Town & County
Town board
The Hempstead town council will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Nathan L. H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Legislature
The Nassau County Legislature will hold its next meeting on Monday, Feb. 9 at 10 a.m. in the legislative chambers, 1550 Franklin Ave., Mineola.
LIPA meeting
The Assembly Republicans will be holding a public hearing regarding the Long Island Power Authority on Friday, Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will take place at the Lynbrook Village Hall, 1 Columbus Drive.

Young adult night
A teen Valentine's Day party will be held on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. Teens will make a craft, play games and make special treats. The program is open to students in grades 6-12.
Child ID cards
A child safety and protection festival, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All children will receive a free identification card, courtesy of New York Life Insurance Company. Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Registration for the program in the children's room.
President's Day
The library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16 in observance of President's Day. It will re-open on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m.
Goowin's Balloowins
Children ages 4-12 are invited to this interactive, creative dramatics presentation featuring storytelling, theatre and balloons on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Volunteers from the audience will be asked to help enact the stories. It is being funded by a grant from Sen. Dean G. Skelos. Registration is required and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
AARP Senior Tax Aide
Tax help will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday through April 14. Be sure to bring your W-2 form, all relevant bank and financial statements, 2008 tax forms, and a copy of your 2007 tax return.
Valley Stream Book Club
This month's selection is "Suite Francaise" by Irene Nemmeets. A discussion will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. in the children's room.
Children's Room

Homebound delivery service
Volunteers deliver books to the homes of those with a disability or who are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. This service is offered weekly, bi-weekly, monthly or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk.

Teen Advisory Group

Learn about Lincoln
This year 2009 marks the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln. Louise Cella Caruso will host a slideshow and lecture about Lincoln's life and legacy on Friday, Feb. 6 at 12:30 p.m.

"A Raisin the Sun" will be shown on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
Family Pre-School Hour
This program, for children 18 months through pre-school, will be held on Monday, Feb. 9 at 10:15, 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. The theme is Valentine's Day mouse. Enjoy singing, dancing, storytelling and a craft.
Tuesday Feature Film
"Stardust" will be shown on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. The movie is rated PG-13.
Caregivers Support Group
The group next meets on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Social worker Sari Flesch leads the discussion.
Chi Gong
The next class, led by Cathy Anastasio, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m.
Poetry Writing

Alexandra Sasha Averko, a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator, will speak on the topic "Sweets for the Sweet." The program will be held at the Elmont Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Registered nurse June Friedel will be at the Elmont Library on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. She will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring, and will be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling.

Adult Bible Study
Holy Name of Mary Church will host an adult bible study next month. On Wednesday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria, there will be a study of the Gospel According to Luke with Deacon Clyde. Luke recounts the story of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. On Thursday, March 5 at 9:45 a.m. in the outreach building, there will be an introduction to Genesis with Jo Pascuzzi.
