Village Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Village Hall court room.
Parking Meter Fees in Valley Stream's business districts will be waived from Friday, Dec. 12 through New Year's Day. This does not apply to any commuter lots.
Holiday Tree Lighting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Hendrickson Administration Building. Santa will be stopping by just after the tree lighting ceremonies, which will begin at 5 p.m., and staying to meet children until 7 p.m. Share cookies and juice with the mayor, trustees and recreation department staff. There will be pencils and note paper for the children to jot down their own special note to Kris Kringle. For more information call the recreation department at 825-8570.

Author Ruth Milstein will be signing books at Borders in the Green Acres Mall on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. Milstein will be available to sign copies of her book, "Cooking With Love: Ventures into the New Israeli Cuisine." North Valley Stream Tree Lighting will take place on Monday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. The event will be held in the triangle at the corner of Dutch Broadway and Corona Avenue. Children from the Howell Road and James A. Dever Schools will perform holiday songs.
Candlelight Tours of the Pagan-Fletcher Restoration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. It will be led by members of the Valley Stream Historical Society. Santa Claus will be visiting the library for Snuggly Stories on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required.
Book Club meets on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the children's room. The book to be discussed is "The Distinguished Guest" by Sue Miller.
Teen Holiday Party will be held on Friday, Dec. 19 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Students in grades 6-12 are invited for an evening of games and crafts. Teens will be able to play Pictionary, participate in team scavenger hunts and make a holiday gift. There will be candy canes and treats for all.
Library Will Close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24 for Christmas Eve and will be closed the following day for Christmas. It will re-open on Friday, Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. The library will also be close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31 for New Year's Eve and will remain closed on New Year's Day.
Annual Children's Lego Exhibit will be on display at the library throughout January. Children of all ages are invited to build an original Lego creation for the exhibit. It has been a popular event for the past few years so be sure to register your child as soon as possible. This is not a competition; all children will receive participation certificates.
Children's Room has a wide variety of programs scheduled for December with children's librarian Jaclyn Kunz. She will be offering Bouncing Babies, Alphabet Soup, Story Craft programs and other seasonal events. Registration is required for all programs, with first preference given to Valley Stream library cardholders.
Homebound Delivery Service is available to those with a physical disability and are unable to visit the library on a permanent or temporary basis. Volunteers will deliver books to your home on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis or as needed. All you need to do is complete a short application form at the adult reference desk. Live Homework Help is available to library cardholders every day from 2 to 10 p.m. in English and Spanish. Families with young children, and adults seeking to support their studies or improve their math or grammar skills, will all have experts waiting to help on the library's web site. Senior Step and style dancing class will be held on Friday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m.
Chair Yoga with Mary will be held on Monday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
Family Pre-School Hour will be held on Monday, Dec. 15 at 10:15, 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. for families with children age 18 months through pre-school. Enjoy a snowman-themed hour of singing, dancing, storytelling and a craft.
Tuesday Feature Film for Dec. 16 is "Midnight Clear." The movie is at 2 p.m. and is rated PG-13.
Holiday Craft program from children in grades 4-6 will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 4 p.m. There will also be a craft program for children in grades K-2 on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. and an ornament craft program for children in grades 2-3 on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m.
Holiday Dancing program for seniors will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m. The program will be led by Tony Carson and Joseph Cassano.
Poetry Writing Workshop with Dr. Linda Opyr is on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
Library Board of Trustees will next meet on Thursday, Dec. 18. An executive session begins at 7 p.m. followed by the public session at 8 p.m.
Book Discussion will be held on Monday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. with librarian Anthony Grimaldi. This month's selection is "People of the Lie: The Hope for Healing Human Evil" by M. Scott Peck. Coffee and cookies will be served.
Teen Book Swap is ongoing throughout December. This swap is open to students in grades 7-12 and hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the young adult services desk.
Intermediate Bridge Classes with Mimi are held every Tuesday at 10 a.m. This is not a beginner's class: you must have experience in playing the game in order to take the class.

District 13 Board of Education will hold its next regular business meeting on Monday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. at the James A. Dever School.
District 24 Board of Education will hold its next work session on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. followed by the regular business meeting at 8:30 p.m. Meetings are at the William L. Buck School.
District 30 Board of Education will hold its next work session on Monday, Dec. 15 and its next regular business meeting on Monday, Dec. 22. Both meetings will be held at 8 p.m. in the Shaw Avenue School Library.
Memorial Junior High School seventh grade holiday concert will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. The eighth and ninth grade concert will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
South High School junior high concerts will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. The high school concert will be held on Monday, Dec. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
North High School second junior high concert will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The ninth and tenth grade holiday concert will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Holiday Craft Fair and boutique will be held at the James A. Dever School on Saturday Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be more than 45 vendors, with unique crafts and new items for your holiday shopping. Health
Free Program for EMS and rescue squad members will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. in Franklin Hospital's Shankman Auditorium. Frank Chester, assistant chief at the Nassau County EMS Academy and John Robe, the hospital's director of the department of medicine will be the featured speakers. Health Assessments with nurse June Friedel will be held at the Elmont Library on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. This program will help identify problems associated with blood pressure, weight control and medication monitoring. Friedel will be available to answer individual questions and for one-on-one counseling. Coffee will be served.
Cancer Support Group will meet in Monday, Jan 5 at 2 p.m. in Franklin Hospital's Shankman Auditorium. It is open to all cancer survivors and family members. Discussions include new medicines and treatments, advice on how to cope and also provides emotional support. For more information call (516) 256-6397.
Blood Drive hosted by Franklin Hospital and Long Island Blood Services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the hospital's Shankman Auditorium. Individuals age 16 (with parental consent) to 75, weighing at least 110 pounds and in general good health are eligible to donate. Donors will receive a free mini-exam. Community Education Program on asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hosted by Franklin Hospital's Respiratory Therapy staff, is held every Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Room R37 of the hospital's radiology department. It is an open forum so participants can come anytime during the program. The discussion will review prevention, care and treatment of asthma and COPD, covering all ages. Daisy Troop 2029 will be hold its annual toy drive through Dec. 14. Anyone wishing to donate can contact Elizabeth Fogarty at fogarty19@verizon.net or they can drop the toys off at the Robert W. Carbonaro School.
